My Dirty Little Secret

I like to challenge myself, or my hair rather, to see how long I can actually go without washing it. I used to have to wash it every other day and on the "dirty day," it was in a ponytail. But believe it or not, you can train your hair to go longer. You just have to push through the super greasy days in the beginning.

I now wash my hair once or twice a week depending on workouts, humidity, etc.. and dry shampoo has always been my BFF ( well that and my lover hairspray Kenra, but you already know that). The dry shampoos really do help to absorb the oil but I always felt like they left an additional layer of grit and grim on my hair. Until now! The Living Proof Dry Shampoo has been a game changer for me, it actually cleans your hair....if you do it right! What do I mean by that? Well, I was doing it totally wrong at first. I was spraying in on and waiting 30 seconds like the bottle says and then lightly rubbing it through. It was working but not like REEEALLLLYY working.

Here is my super dirty five-day old hair. Yuck!

So this is how I do it now:

  1. Brush your hair really well. I like to use this knock off version brush. I feel like it helps pull the oil down from the root.
  2. Spray the dry shampoo liberally in a sweeping motion AND WAIT! Let all the little miracles activate to some how magically clean your hair.
  3. Now rub! I mean rub it like a cray lady! I like to massage my head and really shake it through.  I mean look at the craziness here.
  4. Then I will hit it with a blow dryer if there is any white residue still remaining, and brush it though again.
  5. TA-DA!!!! CLEAN HAIR!!!
After the crazy lady rub!

Here you can see the difference!

After I use dry shampoo it normally goes in a ponytail but with Living Proof I can actually style my hair again and wear it down. This was totally shocking for me!

Do you have any dirty hair tricks? I would LOVE to know!!

Have a great weekend!

Concert Style: The "All American" Way

My bio on several social media outlets reads: "daughter. wife. mommy. fashion blogger. stylist. encourager. friend. coffee drinker. music lover. queso taste tester. collector. nick carter fangirl deluxe." #Truth

If you know me personally, or have been following the blog for awhile, then you are well aware of my love for the Backstreet Boys and all things Nick Carter. When I heard Nick had planned a solo tour for his new album, All American, I was first in line to purchase tickets...to more than one show...duh. But, before any major planning could even take place, there was a much bigger question, "WHAT WAS I GOING TO WEAR?!?!"

Dressing for a concert isn't easy. You want to be dressed cute, but comfortable. Your outfit has to make sense for the venue, type of music, work with the weather, and be practical. It might seem silly or like a lot to consider, but if you think about it, we go through this thought process for whatever event we have planned. Whether it's a wedding, date night, girl's night out or fancy invite-only gala, the struggle is real. If you are anything like me, you get excited about the event first, and then immediately start brainstorming clothes options. It can be stressful, but it doesn't have to be.

Before the flu hit Kris's house (boo!), she was going to go with me to the first concert. She texted me an outfit she was considering (super cute!). I texted her back:

1.) Are you comfortable?

2.) Do you feel cute?

3.) Can you jump? (this guideline isn't necessary for all concert outings. Ha!)

I will leave out her response to my last question (haha!), but these are all relevant questions!

Top: Current Elliott (old similar here) Pants: BlankNYC (best vegan leather EVER!) Sneakers: Golden Goose (similar here) Bag: Marc Jacobs

I like to start with the shoes. If I am going to be standing for 5+ hours, holding down my standing room only, first row spot, I can't do heels. I have some friends that could rock their heels without an issue, but I'm a baby. I decided on sneakers (thank you, sneakers, for being cute and fashionable right now!). When choosing your shoes, be realistic for you. Being in pain just takes the fun away. Try wearing your shoes around the house for an hour or so...do the dishes, fold some clothes, get your kids ready for bed...see how you feel after :-) If you can't do heels, and aren't feeling the sneakers, try a low heeled bootie like this or on-trend lace up flat like this.

Because I was going with a casual shoe, I decided to wear leather skinnies to funk it up a bit. A leather mini like this, A-line suede skirt like this, or culottes like this, are some more great concert going options. I love the idea of a dress like this or this too!

Next on the list, a handbag. Even though Nick Carter's new single, 19 in 99 (listen here), takes you back in time, a fanny pack, while convenient, takes things a little too far back. I feel like no matter what type of concert you are going to, a small crossbody bag is perfect. It holds your essentials for the night: credit card, cash, phone, lipstick and hand sanitizer (because Ew!). Plus, a crossbody keeps you hands-free and keeps your stuff close. You can shop some crossbody bags that would be perfect for any concert outing here, here, and here.

The bottom line is, dress to have fun. But, put some thought into it too. We can all admit that when we feel cute and put together, the night out is just better.

If you have the opportunity to see Nick on tour, you should. It's a really fun show, filled with his solo material, Backstreet Boys classics, and throwback covers. Plus, dancing...*swoon*. It's the perfect girl's night out...or couple of nights. Ha! I am currently having withdrawals.

My first two stops on Nick Carter's All American tour were so much fun and certainly unforgettable! I've got round 3 coming up soon, and I'll let you all know how it goes. And, of course, what I end up wearing.

For those of you that love going to see live music, do you have any concert going must-haves? Leave us a comment below...we love tips, too!

Over the next couple of months, we will talk more "What in the world am I going to wear?" situations. We've got you covered!

Have a great week you guys!
