This time of year, it seems like every weekend there is some sort of festival or outdoor event going on. In Austin, we have everything from live music festivals, to kite festivals, to ice cream festivals (yumm!), and outdoor concerts nightly. Finding the right thing to wear to these events has always been hard for me. I need to be able to stand for long periods (high heels are out), I dont want to be hot (jeans are out), I don't want my feet to get dirty (there go flip flops) and the list of goes on. Like I said, I have a hard time with these events!
So, Jack and I decided to put together a couple looks that we think are perfect for any outdoor event you have planned!
The first look is a great example of the "rule of three" Jack wrote about recently. When it's hot outside it can be really hard to imagine wearing much more than a tank top and shorts but thankfully the kimono is big this summer. It is so lightweight that it doesn't feel like you have added an extra later, but helps your look feel more put together with a boho vibe. Bonus: these double as adorable swimsuit cover ups. You can find them in any store right now with a wide range of pricing. I got mine at Target, similar here.
SIDEBAR: Can I just take a minute to tell you how happy I am that ankle booties came back in style and appear to be here for a while?! I think they have become my most favorite style of shoe. You can wear them with literally everything...sundresses, leggings and sweaters, shorts, jeans, EVERYTHING! On top of their versatility, they are so comfortable and actually have a little heel on them so girls like me that hover around the 5 foot range get the extra boost! I just bought these and I am obsessed. You might have noticed I am wearing them A LOT in my pics lately. Added bonus, they are on SALE right now!
The fringe embellishment on these booties are a fun addition to this boho festival look. Fringe was all over the runway this season, but like most runway trends, the fringe seen was huge, extra long, and overstated. I like to take some current bold runway trends, and work them in to my everyday outfits...in a more understated way. These booties, Jack's booties and her necklace below are all perfect ways to do that.
Another great option for your Summer events is a flowy, lightweight dress. It's easy and effortless, plus you don't have to worry about matching and putting things together. Dresses always feel polished and put together no matter how casual they are. I love the hem line of this dress Jack is wearing. The slight high-low cut is flattering to her legs.
Don't be afraid to put a lighter neutral tan color with black. Neutrals really do go with everything. So, you can toss that whole "brown doesn't go with black" idea out the window and mix things up a bit.
Hopefully, these give you some good ideas on what to wear next time you have a fun outdoor event to go to! Have fun!
