For lots of us here in Texas, today is the first day of school. Whether you are a "Yahoo Mom", a "Boohoo Mom" or a student going back to school yourself, this day can be a little crazy; lots of emotions, butterflies, new routine, etc. We are thinking about all of you and your kids today on this manic back to school Monday!
Growing up, going back to school clothes shopping was my (Jack's) favorite thing to do- school supplies ran a very close second. Although I have recently lost some control over what my boys wear the first day of school, I still have some say and like to take them shopping for an outfit that they will feel good in (and cute) their first day back. I have always loved the brand, Peek, for kids clothing. They carry the line at Nordstrom (and will have GREAT sales) but they also have their own retail stores filled with fun, expressive, and unique kids clothing.
My boys love to go to the Peek store because they have things like goldfish, fruit snacks, coloring pages and cool books. I like to go to the store because the clothes are great quality, soft, and they offer a variety of (my favorite) graphic tees for different personality types. My oldest one leans towards the Pi and Bill of Rights tees, while my youngest leans towards vintage motorcycle racing and Muhammad Ali. They are all beyond cute and allow kids to express themselves in a more unique way. Trust me, we own the Minecraft, Batman, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle tees too. But, I love that we can meet in the middle with this line of clothes and keep the athletic shorts in the dresser drawer- at least for the first day!
Side note: If I had a girl, I might own the entire store. You will see why below.
I find that the sizing runs small, so I size up in all of the clothes.
I am personally a sucker for a cute colorful button with a sweet phrase on it, so when the kind saleswoman offered me a button as we checked out, they had me! When I got home, I realized that I had a nice little button collection (with some being 25 years old!). I took my flare and put it all on my denim jacket. I LOVE IT! Even though it is burning hot outside, I keep trying to wear it. It's so 80's, so Office Space, so ME! It is always fun to personalize a classic staple piece in some way. Thank you Peek, for dressing my boys for the first day of school and inspiring a little personal flare!
My (Kris) son is starting the first grade and he is so excited! The last two years we have ordered his lunch box and backpack from Pottery Barn Kids. I have to say if it weren't for the excitement and right of passage to be able to pick out a new backpack every year I would have made him carry his one from last year. The backpack and the lunch box seriously look brand new!! I was very impressed with the quality of both of these items, so we ordered from there again.
When Jack was here last month, she brought my kids some bath play dough from Lush. It is called FUN, and let me just say, my kids are obsessed with it. You can find it here. It's soap, shampoo, and bubble bath all wrapped up in play dough. The blue one is actually my favorite for bed time. It is made with lavender essential oils for a soothing bedtime routine.
While this little girl is only 2, I had to include her in the the "back to school post" because she thinks she is a "big girl"! She loves the FUN play dough and I have to pry it out of her hands to get her out of the bath!
Hope you had a great back to school Monday!
