Kris and I had the unique opportunity, thanks to the lovely people at American Express, to attend a fashion show put on by MADE Fashion Week. This part of New York Fashion Week focuses on 30 emerging designers. Being emerging fashion bloggers ourselves, we were really excited to be a part of this.
We were even more excited to see a show by best friend design team, Cushnie et Ochs. A little about them:
"ESTABLISHED IN 2008 BY CARLY CUSHNIE AND MICHELLE OCHS, CUSHNIE ET OCHS EMBODIES A UNIQUE SENSIBILITY THAT SEAMLESSLY COMBINES A BOLD SENSUALITY WITH A RAW FEMININE ATTITUDE THAT IS CONFIDENTLY UNDERSTATED AND LUXURIOUSLY MODERN. THE DESIGNERS' INHERENT UNDERSTANDING OF THE FEMALE BODY INFORMS THEIR BODY-CONTOURING SILHOUETTES WHILE CELEBRATING THE WOMEN WHO WEAR THEM. THE COLLECTION HAS AN ALLURING SENSE OF ENERGY AND ITS FLAWLESS EXECUTION IS COMPLEMENTED BY THE USE OF COLOR AND BOLD LINES. THE STRIKING COLLECTION SPEAKS TO THE NEW MODERN WOMAN WHO OWNS HER OWN INDIVIDUALITY."- www.cushnieetochs.com
We arrived at Milk Studios to a slew of photographers, models, over-the-top outfits, and beautiful people dressed in all black and designer sunglasses. Lots to take in!
We were given our VIP credentials (BAM!) and whisked to the backstage area where people were all over the place preparing for the show. These 10 minute shows are a production! The energy throughout the studio was a mixture of excitement and anticipation.
Before the show, we got styled by these two fun stylists from the DryBar. They had some stories! We were thankful for the touch-up because it was so humid outside. Notice, 'before' pictures are not included. Just trust that they took us from Lion King hair status to fashion show presentable! Plus, there was champagne :-)
Next, it was show time! Eeeeek!
The collection was AMAZING! It was a mixture of feminine, sexy, ghetto fabulous, sleek, fun. Being female designers, they really know a woman's body and work their designs to perfection. Below, you will find a video of the full collection and the show. Don't you love the internet!?!
After the show, our hosts led us back to the room where we would get to participate in some Q & A sessions. First up, was fashion blogger and swimsuit designer Shea Marie of @peaceloveshea and her bestie, musician Caroline Vreeland @carolinevreeland (notice the BFF theme?!)
Then, we met the Cushnie et Ochs designers! They were gracious, kind, and inspiring. It made us love their collection even more. Plus, they were fun!
The entire experience was kind of surreal. The fashion world is star studded, fast paced, and involves a lot of cameras flashing. But, it was also inspiring, creative, and filled with love and support.
We will be back next week with Part 3 of our New York Fashion Week adventure!
